Team Bex raise money for Bowel Cancer UK by completing running events throughout the UK in memory of Rebecca ‘Bex’ Griffiths. Adam Knaggs of SDC started running with Team Bex 5 years ago. “My initial involvement came about through my daughter who had started to attend training sessions (organized by Team Bex) and local “Fun Runs”. I was introduced to Rebecca Griffiths (Bex) who promptly asked me to enter a 10k race as a Team Bex member. If it had been anyone else asking, I would have said no, citing usual excuses such as “I don’t run”, “I’m not fit enough” or “I haven’t got the time”. But this wasn’t just anyone. This was someone with advanced bowel cancer who was going through full on Chemotherapy and still completing half marathons. How could I say no? All my excuses seemed pathetic, so I said yes! I ran the 10k, proudly wearing my pink Team Bex shirt, and countless other races since. This form of recruitment was far from a one off and the team now has approximately 400 members. Team Bex is a family that has not only raised a huge amount of money for charity (Bowel Cancer UK) but also one that provides support for all its members in all manner of ways. Bex was the most inspirational person I have ever known and although she lost her fight with cancer the team is still going strong, and I know that I am not alone when I say that I will always run in pink.”
